Some people mention the same topic a few times and become the ‘cat lady’ or the ‘traffic lady’ or the ‘weather lady’…at the risk of becoming the ‘back-up lady’, I have to say – make sure you not only back up your website, but check your back-ups work!
Yes, I learned the hard-way, my back-up seemed to process correctly, I didn’t get any particular error messages, everything looked ok at first glance… especially when I loaded my back-up over the top of a previous back-up…hmmm… you see my issue here? I will be updating my routines to make sure I completely remove the previous copy in my test area and only then install the back-up to make sure it worked before I need to rely on it.
I moved my website to a new hosting account over the weekend and what should have been a straightforward task turned into a much bigger job! Luckily I had a recent back-up I could use and as this is still a pretty new site, updating a few things manually wasn’t a big deal. Phew!
You live and learn and isn’t that really the point?
