As an entrepreneur mom – millions of things catch your attention all day long – how do you stay focused? How do you prioritize what you give your attention to?
I’m sure you’ve heard lots of advice – focus on revenue generating tasks, or focus on networking and follow-up, or focus on selling (!), focus on serving your clients, make sure you’re know what’s going on with the cash flow, what about brainstorming and capturing your ideas? Bright-shiny syndrome anyone? Or what happens when you disappear for a couple of hours down a technology rabbit-hole, trying to figure out something that you don’t even need for your business, or certainly not any time soon… how do you prioritize what’s important, or urgent, or to be done first? Do you follow a plan? Do you write endless checklists? Do you ever cross anything off? 😉
There is so much advice and of course, most of it contradictory… so the thing that I come back to, time and time again… ‘Why am I in business in the first place’ and ‘what can I do that will help me stay in business?’
What’s your big fat reason to be in business? To take care of your family? To have fun? For a meaningful purpose? To make a gazillion dollars? To help people better their lives? To help specific people with specific problems? Whatever it is…are you clear about it?
My big fat reason why, is that I want to make a significant contribution to my family and enjoy the flexibility to be around in daylight hours, to spend time with them, while using my natural gifts and talents to support holistic entrepreneurs to succeed in their business by having their technology needs handled by someone who loves to do that, joyfully… when I remember my big fat reason why, the what should I do next soon becomes clear… that’s how I prioritize. 🙂
